flathead road trip

Well, after looking for the holly grail of horsepower and not finding it. I decided to get better fuel mileage and that's pretty elusive as well. However, a new engine is in development for a 27 T track roadster. Have to get rid of some of my old racing parts.

Hi Ron
Been a while. I am getting 19 to 20 on the hiway. I could do better with a higher gear.
I would like to replace the C4 with a 4 speed but it could get tight. Still looking.
The engine has 304 ft lbs at 2700. I could drop another 30% and still go down the road easily . I do run a Columbia also.

Too bad they didn't put the sparkplugs in the transfer area. Would have made a great set of heads. But truly a beautiful engine, well done.

Hi Ron
Here is the combustion chamber design I was going to copy. It is from a Jr
Dragster that was a winner i like the radius around the valves. Should work good. ( it did win!!!)

Yes I like that chamber very much, be nice if the plug location was alittle lower. I have reasons for that. However that's a nice chamber, is that what you have in those heads?
I saw them when they were for sale a few years back and the plug location was in the stock location.

No, I just bolted on the W&W heads. The only thing I did was to coat the combustion chamber, pistons, valves with a ceramic coating. When testing the coating on the dyno with a test engine, the EGT's went up after coating. Result of throwing more of the heat out of the cylinder. I drive this flathead all year round in the desert. I was going to build a dual plug head but decided not too. These new coils give a lot of bang for the buck. I woke up, "it's a driver". I do think the radius around the valves would help but it lowers compression. Maybe not if it filled better. By the way, for you guys out there with French blocks, I measured the bores and these blocks don't wear. Lots of nickel does work.
