Flathead question

Im putting my flathead back to look stock on the outside. I'm over two carbs and nasty looking finned heads. Anyway I just got my stock head and intake back from the machine shop. I painted them and find them to look very rough. Do most people grind the stock cast bumps down to get them smooth? If so what is your method?

Sure you can grind the heads as well as the block and manifold to look smooth but then there's the rub, it won't look stock

Exactly. Smoothed heads will look as street roddy as finned heads. There was a pic about a year or so ago on the Hamb of a stock flattie with smoothed heads and it looked un-natural.... well to me anyways.

Need someone to haul off the 2 carbs and the nasty looking finned heads???:D:D

The 97's are getting gone thru and the heads are going to the machine shop to get trued up and cleaned. I will sell heads intake and two beautifull 97's with a stainless fuel line and high dollar breathers for 1000$.

Got my question answered. I will leave the cast look. I have a nice oil bath I'm going to use. Next ? What service sticker is correct for a 49'? Thanks again for the input..

Huh? Nasty looking finned heads?

Its your car and you can do what you want but you have a hot rod, and a nice one to boot so it seems. A stock looking engine certainly will not go with the car. Finned aluminum heads can be bead blasted and sealer used on the bolts to stop the leaking. And dual carbs have the "look" for a hot rod.

I know. I'm messed up in the head. I want it to look like I yanked it out of a 49' pickup and stuffed it it this model a. I'm a sucker for the stock looking flathead motors.
