flathead "mounting" suggestions

SO, I picked up an engine run stand the other day off facebook market place, for $40 I couldn't have bought the steel and casters for that, much less cut and weld it all. ANYWAY, I want to set it up to run flatheads SO my question IS from a 21 stud to an 8BA, the mounting bolt spacing on the bell housing end, ARE they the same, the alignment pins and bolt spacing?? I made a plywood rear mount for shipping a motor overseas and was thinking about getting on of my customers to cut one out of 1/4 plate for me.....OR do some of you have a better rear mount idea on your run stands??

To run a 8BA you would need the bellhousing for a truck or Mercury then the bolt pattern would be the same as the early flathead 48 and older.

Here's how you can mount an 8BA on an engine stand without using the Merc bellhousing. This is homemade and held a complete 8BA safely. If you want, I still have the mounting swivel head and can mail you paper templates of the mounting components for the postage cost so you can make your own. It's 5/8 inch thick plate cut with a torch. Works great.

All you need is the short little 8BA bellhousing that would allow a 39-style trans to bolt up to the bellhousing. Then the rear of the engines are the same.

On the front, think of using a set of 32 motor mounts (which you'd need a set of). The same mounting holes are in the block all the way up to 53, so you'd have one universal front mount - regardless of the water-pump types involved or year of the block.

I bought a cheap Harbor Freight engine stand for the rear mount on my test stand. I cut it up and mounted to the frame of the stand with bolts. The stand has several sets of holes and the holes on the Harbor Freight part are slotted so it is adjustable back and forth, while the moveable arms can be made to fit either the mounting surface of the engine or the bell housing. The front of the stand has the standard '41-'48 Ford cushions. That way, I can use standard Hurst mounts on my engines. So far, I have had several flatheads, an early Chrysler hemi, and an Olds Rocket on it with no problems. (I used truck pumps when I ran an 8BA.)

Now that's a slick idea on the front mounts!

My set up for permanent mounting to purpose built frame ,not really suited to what rockfla is proposing that is ,one stand / multiple engines .
In the words of a Johnny Cash song you might require an A dapter.

The mounts shown are Silentbloc machinery mounts ( pumps, small gensets ect. ) they are available in various load ratings
