Most war years V8 blocks were made in Canada. There were blocks that had 59 series characteristics and no 59. It's hard to say if they were war time or post war. They may have been some of the blocks made for the 1945 trucks that started back into production in mid year 1945. Its the overall characteristics that tell the true story. If it has pre-war or post-war then that's where it's at. The Photo ID thread is the best thing going for ID. Most of us have heard all the urban legends about one type being better than another but there is no proof other than what was posted in that thread by 38 Coupe.
A lot of the Canadian built war time blocks were 99A style, lower valves and stuff. I've seen much more of these than 59 characteristic ones (with the higher valves). They also built 21 stud blocks in that time frame as replacement for British built stuff, Bren gun carriers and such.
Though this might be cus I'm British.
