flathead head gaskets and intake gasket

just wondering does the head gaskets or intake gaskets require any permatex of any kind to intall the gaskets like permatex the intake gaskets but head gaskets just go on as they are long as block surface and back of head surface are nice and clean . and they say u need to put a thread sealer on the threads of all the head bolts so they dont leak water and what sealer would that be . name of it ???? i know when i pulled my head bolts out they have grey cruskty looking sealer on them .

i just make sure the surfaces are clean, then spray the intake and head gaskets with permatex copper sealer, then put some permatex gasket sealer on the head bolts,(the black gunkey stuff) good to go and never a problem.

I'm not convinced there is any benefit to using copperkote on FelPro (or other) composition head gaskets. It sure makes removal a PITA.

i use the copper head gaskets, just a lite coat, never had any trouble removing them either.

I use composition gasket sets made by "Best Gasket Co." Use light coat of grease on intake gasket and most times nothing on head gaskets. Use non hardening Permatex "Right Stuff" on stud or bolt threads going into water/coolant chamber.

Best gasket recommends a spry on head gasket sealer like Hi Tach or Copper coat. On the intake I coat both sides with grease, you can remove intake a few times without ripping the gasket. Walt

I have tried copper spray and just grease on Best graphite head gaskets. Never re useable if you have to pull the heads. So, I guess the answer is new head gaskets every time?

I use either nothing, or NeverSeize on head gaskets (usually nothing). The only exception is when the gasket maker or engine manufacturer recommends a specific installation. Then follow their instructions.

I never re-use a head gasket unless I'm stuck on an island and the boat doesn't have any spares;)

You can re-anneal copper gaskets in a pinch, but c'mon, unless you are racing how often are you pulling your heads?

Is Permatex #2 the one for head bolts?Thought I read that
here or the HAMB.

Yes, the non-hardening type, #2.

#1 will probably work, but I personally never use it and usually swear at anyone who has used it before me...If nothing else will work, #1 probably will - it just doesn't like to come apart and it's a PITA to remove once you get things apart.

i dont pull heads very often if i do its a rebuild or to see whats going on in there . and the gaskets i got ordered coming in is all felpro heads and intake gaskets so i didnt know wether to put them all on just dry or use any kind of permatex
