flathead ford v8 oil pan issue

Hello...I want to install a 49-53 8BA flathead v8 into a 1941 super deluxe passenger car. I am concerned about pan clearance. Anyone on this forum made a change like this before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Anyone aware of availability of a passenger car oil pan that might work in this instance? Thanks in advance. Perry

you dont show a picture of what you have, but most likely you will need a truck pan or some thing with a rear sump instead of the more common center sump

I have a 8 BA pan with a center sump on this forum. has clearance front and back .

Not sure with a 41 but a 40 and earlier probably need a truck pan to clear steering.

I just finished swapping an 8BA into my father's 46 sedan. The truck oil pan and matching oil pump pickup (pickup purchased new) was a necessity and fit the chassis without modification.

The 1949 thru 51 Mercury pan is similar in depth to the 59 series and earlier pans and is a rear sump pan that works well for 8BA block use in the early Fords. Keep in mind that oil pans, starter plates, and bellhousings are related. I hope this link still works.

The mercury pan has an attachment between the starter plate and the three studs on the bottom of the pan on 49 through early 51 pans. The bellhousing changed to the big cast iron unit after that.

The truck ans are a bit deeper and they have a different starter plate set up with a dust seal. A person also needs the correct oil pick up tube for the pan being used.
