flathead exaust manifold

I'm putting a 50 Merc flathead in a 34 ford. I would like dual exaust that flows good. I have a pair of tin headers. It looks like they may hit the steering box or shaft. I prefer cast iron manifolds. I heard that a Bob Drake manifold may work on the left side. Then use a stock Merc right manifold with the front outlet blocked off. Is there a stock flathead manifold setup like 7RT truck manifolds that will work instead of these ? Gene

Gene,
Save yourself time, money and headaches trying to fit aftermarket headers to your build. Just find an expert pipe bender and he can fab a pipe to come off the existing left manifold, around the steering box, dip stick, and clear the clutch pedal when depressed. John

I don't have the stock Merc manifolds they were broken. Left manifold looked like a maze anyway. All I have is the old 59A dirt track turnouts & a pair of tin headers. My engine is in the shop getting rebuilt & warmed up a bit. A cylinder is pitted, may go 3 1/4 or 3 5/16 to clean it up. I'm thinking on telling him go out to 3 5/16 with 3 ring pistons as long as it will cost the same. The 8CM cam is shot. I may go Isky Max 1 and Isky lifters. I don't want to spend $300 more for fentens when stock parts may work fine. Has anyone used truck manifolds on a 49-53 flathead in a older body ? Gene
