Flathead engine removal

Bolts and chain in center holes of block. If the intake was still on they make carb plates to lift engine. Any auto parts store. I am not sure if that has ****** stabilizer rods to the engine.

I have used this method for engine removal and install, I picked the idea up from an old mechanic who worked a a Ford Dealer. It works good, it can be slid to the back of the valve chamber, if you want to pull the engine and trans, or slide it to the center for just the engine. It is made of 1/4" X
2 1/2" X 2 1/2" angle with a 1/2" rod welded on the top corner. It is very close coupled for pulling in tight quarters. I have used it many times over the years. Only disadvantage is having to remove the intake before using.

I built a lift plate for mine. It is somewhat like the ones you use on a four barrel manifold (or more like a 5.0 EFI if your familiar with those). Just a flat plate the shape of the intake manifold and an upright welding at 90 deg the length of it. It has several holes drilled in it for different balance points.

Those work real good Reggie. A little scary the first time, as you just don't believe they work as good as they do. I used one of those for years until it was borrowed.... Who was that I wonder?

Thanks for all the advice guys, I really need it having this be the first one I have done. I think I will try to get the engine and transmission out at the same time. They both need to come out anyway.

To double check on transmission removal

1)First remove clutch linkage

2) remove the two piece universal joint housing ball cap?

3) I unbolt the engine rear supports.

4) At this point will the engine and ****** come out by pulling on engine with engine crane
lifting up some?

I assume it is something in the transmission/ clutch but not sure what?
