Very familiar with engine, its history and potential but not in the groove when it comes to value. Just for the record,it is from the truck the owner (foolishly)removed it from, isnt frozen up and naturally would take a bit of coaxing to start ......any value in regards to transmission? $500.00 kinda seems sad almost considering its history ...i hope it eventually goes to a good home! Im afraid the truck it was in will be either hacked or perhaps better yet, never even touched!

See my response to your first post. FYI, the software on this site would have allowed you to edit your first post and add what you said in this post instead of making a second post. Just thought I would let you know this since you are new.

Find someone in the area who has a flathead Ford, and pass the word. That is the best way to see that the engine gets into the hands of someone who can use it. You might also meet some fun folks and get into these yourself. Happened to me!

There's no way anyone on any forum can value an engine based on the "turns over" criteria. I have seen engines that have been "broken loose" so they "turn over" but have cracked rings or worse. $300 is the lowest I have seen one advertised for locally and there are plenty around my area (Detroit MI) but I'm sure many of those are worth less than that. I have gotten lots of engines running only to notice knocks, etc., requiring teardown and rebuild. The trans is another story...

Hopefully you get interested enough to buy this engine for yourself, and maybe get the truck to go with it! Good luck!

It could even run, but still have serious cracks in the block that would only be visible after tear down. Or it could be seized up but still be rebuildable, disassembly is the only way to sure. They can be a real "pig in a poke", you never know. I say this from personal experience.

What year is the engine? what kind of trans 3 or 4 speed? o.d or not o.d
I might be interested if you are not gonna buy it , as stated many times by my late father (where is it cracked?) .

what if......a 3/4race offenhauser eqp'd 239cid flathead found its way under the hood of my 1989 ford ranger 's' w/it's 3.73's..? that would at least keep me from going with svt 2.3l turbo set up...
