Flathead Builder in California

Jeff Jones in Fresno is one of the best 559 313-1454 or

Stay away from Jeff Jones of Fresno. I ordered him a rebuild stock 34 Flathead/Trans to be delivered in March, he took 50% in February 2024 and dragged it all the way into July and now he does not even respond anymore. I sent him a demand letter asking for money back - no response of course.

He has scammed me!

Do not do business with Jeff Jones - also known as hotvega73, 1hotvega, Jeff Jones Vintage Engine, etc.

Tim McMaster at Hanford Auto Supply
in Hanford, California is internationally
renowned - I have visited his shop.

I had good luck with LJ's Speed and Machine Shop in Napa. He's built several flatheads for guys over here.

Search the archives here and on HAMB for any builder you decide to use. Note the "&" sign confuses the search engine. Go to Google and search for "H&H on Fordbarn" or "H&H on HAMB reviews".

Kind of an old thread but I'll add 2 shops. 1st, Johnson's in Yucaipa. I've never used him but knowledgeable people I know use him for flatheads and other engine work as well. They only have good things to say about his work.
2nd, BMS machine services in San Bernardino. They rebuilt the 8ba for my '39 p/u and the 302 for my still unfinished '54 Ranch Wagon. Both run great although the 302 was only run on the run stand to break in the cam. Would use BMS again with no hesitation. JMO
