king: You might want to post good, clear photos of what you have in the FOR SALE section of the Swap Meet. Remember, folks are gunshy when buying flathead blocks as cracks are so common and main bearing caps are often missing. Hopefully, your blocks have been stored inside.
Hi, Thanks as I am New to the Ford barn and am trying to get started with a MASSIVE Ford Flathead collection -not just blocks but just about everything that goes with them -crankshafts-gears-parts -carbs-transmissions -you name it . I will try to see about listing stuff on the swap meet . Yes, they have been stored inside for many many years . Thanks
There are some great old discussions on here describing the differences between the various generations of flathead engines if that would be of help to you. Let us know and one of us can look them up.
I think it's great you're trying to put these back into service instead of scrapping them. I'm kind of in the same boat with some old parts. Can you give the backstory how these were aquired and stored for all these years? There are many still interested in flatheads but as time marches on the demand seems to be limited.
Tom
The EFV8 Club would be a good place to start. There are likely quite a few flathead fans from the Springs all the way to Cheyene plus all the outlying areas. Shipping is a deal killer now days so local buyers would be your best bet.
Most folks want a block that is crack free. Visual inspection, magnetic particle inspection, and water jacket pressure testing is the only real way to check all that. These old cast iron wonders liked to freeze crack and heat crack. Some cracks are repairable but add to the expense of a build. Some cracks are not practical to repair.
Not that I'd know for sure, but Bert's Model A Store in Denver may take the lot from you? They deal mainly in Model A parts, but they told me they have a lot of V8 engine parts that they don't have time to inventory. I've got a buddy that visited them and he told me their warehouse is full of 4 and 8 cylinder parts. When I called them they told me folks usually browse through what they have and make an offer since the V8 isn't exactly in their interests. Their close to you, and may take what you don't want to sell piecemeal?
