Flathead Air Cleaner Question

Ross: When you say heavy duty does that mean that they used those on trucks also. Trying to find a air cleaner that will fit on the carb on top of the McCullouch Supercharger and still stay under the hood of my 35. Thanks Dave

How would one of those go on a 34,mine has the stock filter, but you can hear the intake noise above 50mph.Lawrie

My thinking on this is that Ford would sell this air cleaner on all vehicles (cars or trucks) with the 221 engine made the years it was available. Back then the customer could almost name the game since the dealers wanted your business.
It is possible this would allow you to have a filter underneath the hood on top of your "Huffer" since it probably only extends about 4"-5" above the carb throat.

This picture shows in the 34 book on a Detroit lubricator carb

Dave-

Here is a picture of a heavy duty air filter on my '35 engine. It does give a "different" sound to the engine. The best part is people scratch their head and wonder what it is!

From the top of the carb how many inches does it go up before bending? Thanks for the picture exactly what I am after. Anyone have one they want to let go? Thanks Dave

Thanks everyone for the replys. I think I have found a start to the air cleaner for the 35. We still need to mock it up to see if everything fits under the hood. Thanks all for the help Dave

That air cleaner and variants were available all the way from '32-48, I believe. The main variant I know of is that the round tube changed to a flatter stamped channel at some time in the run. Bracket had two positions to allow raising the cleaner on vehicles with governors.
