flat head assembly

i'm ready to reasemble my 53- 255flatty (canadian54)everything seems to be strate forward except crank caps alignment . there is movement in the caps . how do i know when there on straight.
also some use lock washers and or lock tite
i never did ...

Try the HAMB. See if you get 2 answers the same. LOL

Try calling Timmy McMaster? He is on Face Book, does Y-Blocks and flat heads. Runs a machine shop in CA, does Bonneville and old timey drags with his flat head roadster, drives a 53/54 Merc with a flatty at 75 so I believe he knows his way around your issue.

i went on Timmy's sight last night and he looks like a busy guy
i'll go see a local flat head builder in the morning
i'm pretty sure i'll put crank in with no seal and rotate and snug the bolts (no washers)maybe a bitt of blue loctite then move crank forward and back ' then take measurement ...
