Can someone post a picture of an original spark arrester? I’m guessing it’s different from what Bratton’s sells today. https://www.brattons.com/gas-tank-filler-screen.html

Don't know why he thinks it will help in a crash. It's not like it wraps around the outside of the tank or something.
Maybe if the passengers wore one ...
Bratton’s lists it as a screen which also serves as a “spark arrester” for $12.05. Their screen does not screw in nor does it have tabs, “it just sits there”.
If you want the original type it’s $50!

In the Model A production era gas pumps were more primitive and the hose nozzles were usually not grounded. Putting the nozzle in the tank could create a spark, hence the arrester was needed. Think about the antique gas pumps you may have seen owned by a hobbyist.
Thanks for the clarification. My tank does not have one. Someone remarked that the tank fills more slowly with this device. Does that mean that the nozzle “clicks off” a number of times without the tank actually being full (because the fuel hasn’t had time to go through the screen into the tank)?
