The best way to see what the spacers do is to go to: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/40-ford-wheels-on-a-model-a.750368/#post-8330045 The early brake drums (1928-1935) were at two different elevations near the lug nuts and this provides the two elevations to firmly support the wheel when using the later drums/hubs and the earlier wheels. Thanks everyone for the kind comments.
Yes, I have the spacers from MT Products. I have to say though, I (think) I know what they are supposed to do, but I'm not convinced they do anything.
And Tinker, I agree to some degree. I'm not crazy about the red wires and wide whitewalls, but Momma loves them. Personally, I think the car would look better with the side panels on and the bumpers. But I gotta take one step at a time, if you know what I mean.
I'm going to drive it a while, then look to put radials on. Probably big/littles. We'll see how much the new springs settle before I make a decision on size.
This looks great I'm in the middle of rebuilding mine I have a question regarding the brake shoes? It looks like you have the long brake shoe facing the rear of the car. I'm being told the long shoe should be associated with the larger dia brake cylinder and should face the front of the car. It appears your "long shoe is facing the rear with the large wheel cylinder facing the front???
Here is a much better pic of the right rear. I think Veeder is correct. Looks like a full shoe facing the rear to me, and it looks like the wheel cylinder is backwards also. I bet the other side matches
I looked at these for wear but didn't notice they were installed incorrectly.
