Fitting the Rear Main Thrust Collar

Hello,
Bought the Rear main thrust collar part number A 6334 and was wondering how you get this thing to work.It did not reduce my excessive clearance so is it supposed to be built up with babbitt then re machined to provide correct end play for the crank ?Unfortunately this part did not come with any directions so I really do not want to re invent the wheel so to speak.
Thanks in advance Dan

I was going to look up that part number, but, I forgot.. Does this monster have inserts or babbitt ?? That might be a dumb question, but, I had to ask anyway..

Dan: As I see it there are two possibilities. Either the babbitt is worn too much on the front of the end thrust. or the distance between the flanges on the crankshaft is too great. The brass parts are designed for a "standard" location. I used one where the front of the babbitt was worn excessivly, and had to do some creative engineering to make it work. I would suggest putting the brass part in the block and measuring the width of the thrust. Compare this to the width of the crank thrust. Should have less than .006 endplay. According to the Ford print, the width of the thrust is 2.997 to 3.001. Hope this helps.

I beleive Bert's in Denver is the one who has these made. Might give Steve a call there and get some instructions verbally. I have not installed any of these yet or I could be of more help. Bert's # is 800-321-1931. Rod

I did as Tom suggested, however you must remove an equal amount from the back side of the flange that fits into the groove in the block. It is a light press fit. I built a fixture for my lathe faceplate and took .025 off the flange, then slipped .025 worth of shim behind the brass part, worked like a charm.

Actually it is a straight babbitted engine and I am rebuilding most of it ,had it bored out reground the throws.Main journals look good except for end thrust so using the special collar that is supposed to help solve the excess end thrust problem.Dan
