First tag with car from 1930

Two years ago I bought a 1930 model A Tudor from the family of a man who bought it in about 1955 and was the second owner. Last week I was given an article from a news paper article done about him and the car. In the picture that was run with the article he was holding a tag that I found under the back seat. He told the person who wrote the article that it was the first tag issued to the car in 1930. I thought that might be possible and now it seems to be true. Now to my question how rare is it to have a tag and a car that go back that far and is it anything more than a good story?

I bet there are not but a hand full of A's that have the original plate with them. Check with your DMV and you might be able to regsiter it with that. Write a short article for The Resotrer with pictures.

Not sure what you mean by a "TAG" ???

Oh come on! He means the license plate, most people call it the license plate, license tag or just tag.

It is pretty rare to have the first tag for a car and very cool.

In Alabama you can use a Tag or license plate (Sorry I am from the south and yes we do have our own language) of the same year as the vehicle when you register it.

For the original car, yes rare.

My fordor has the original tag, issued September 25 1928, have a small round metal piece size of a silver dollar with the tag number, and the first 6 registrations, 28-31, 43, and 51 or 53 owner died in a 1931 farming accident (i have the obit) the wife reregistered it twice after that I know of. My car is from Georgia, unfortunately I can't re register the tag in maryland.

I know a guy who bought the first Model A Phaeton that was sold in his area, from the original owner.(Yes she was a little old lady!) Among the bits and pieces was the complete set of all the plates that had been on the car since new. Another interessting fact about this car was that it was one of two phaetons and a tudor that made up the shipment. All three vehicles were photogaphed outside the dealership in 1928 and all survive to the present day.

That is a great story!!!

Remember when you placed your tag (pink slip) on the dash and lined up side by side on a two lane and whom ever made it to the finish line first, took both tags.
