Finding chassis number on a Model 62?

Woodie UK

Hi Guys,
I plan to bring my French-built 1950 Matford-Ford woodie to the US when we relocate from the UK to Florida in 2015.

The car uses the 1938 model 60/62 chassis although I'm not sure if Ford manufactured the chassis in France or shipped it in from the US post-war.

The car has a body plate but I can't seem to locate a chassis number, which will obviously need to be verified if I'm ever going to get the car registed in Fla.

Any pointers as to where the number might be located???

Model 62 was never sold in the USA...but probably best hope to start with is to hope that they followed US Ford practice in hiding the numbers!
Ford put the main number on transmission casting, top center of the bellhousing part that is integral with transmission. (this is a US type car with torque tube and trans like USA, I believe) Most European built Fords also got the # stamped on top of engine on the surface that intake manifold bolts to.
Number was repeated on top of frame rail in the engine compartment, left frame here but who knows on a car that came out of Ford England. The actual location wandered a bit, anywhere from firewall to radiator, and some trucks had it on front crossmember!
I think the earlier #'s were from the same basic run of numbers used in USA...don't know what they did when production left Ford proper and Matford became a separate entity.
If I remember, I'll have a look at Pilot manual and see if it says anything about serial location on those.
(a postscript...many continental countries, at least Germany and Scandinavian areas, also required a plate on firewall with serial # and some specifications)

Thanks for the info Bruce,
There is a plate rivetted to the firewall that shows vehicle number, and that's the one listed on my registration papers...just wondereing if that would be good enough for a DMV inspection in the US?

You will have no problem as long as the number on your paper work matches the number on the car no matter where the VIN number is located. DMV in Florida requires a VIN verification and it is a very easy process. PM me and I can email you the papers just so you will have a heads up when you arrive here and go to register your vehicle.
