“Finally” a fulfilled promise

IF you attended the Van Pelt’s transmission seminar a little over two years ago, you saw his “slick” detent removal tool he used in conjunction with his shop press for those stubborn dent screws SO, shortly after, one of my customers lets me raid his scrap rack and I was able to cumshaw all the materials to make some. SO pictures 1 & 2 are the masters tool that I took pictures of and 3,4 &5 are my rendition of the same tool……I decided to put my lathe and mill to work and learn some machinist skills…….SO Tim Ayers & Dave (in Maine) I finally got yours done and will be on the way on Monday!!!!

Re: “Finally” a fulfilled promise

Thank you very much Glenn. I have enough material that I have one extra one IF someone would like one, I do not, however, have an extra screw driver bit!!

Re: “Finally” a fulfilled promise

This is neat to see! We’ve used the tool many hundreds of times over the years. I think we’ve replaced the screwdriver bit once or twice over that time. I’m happy to see that one of my casual ideas worked out well, and that others are able to benefit from it.

Mac

Still, many many thanks to you, Shelly, George & Will for the the fine 3 day class and invaluable lessons you guys provided. I am honored to have the ability "carry on" a small part of the legend, I will pay "royalties" IF you so desire!!! Lol

BY the way, I was "STILL" a little unsure of which screwdriver bit to use, I don't have a shift tower that is NOT already on a car and the one I do have better access to without having to remove the transmission cover is not close at hand SO would you mind sharing which number flat tip screwdriver you use.....I think the one I have "might" be about .0250 or so to thick!!!

Re: “Finally” a fulfilled promise

I think it's been two years out, but I want to thank Mac, Shelly & Crew again for hosting that trans school. What a great event.

Re: “Finally” a fulfilled promise

Well done Rock. Plus I learned a new word "cumshaw". Never heard that term before.

A cumshaw artist is that clever, resourceful person in a military unit who always seems to manage to procure whatever’s needed. This term apparently derives from similar-sounding words in Mandarin, kan hsieh, or kam-si?, in the language spoken around the Chinese port of Xiamen, which British soldiers understood to mean “gratuity” or “bribe,” and adapted as cumshaw.;)
