filling the diff

I went to change the diff lube. Everything went fine until I went to refill. The gallon of gear lube I bought was just a gallon jug. After trying all my funnels, I noticed I had some fittings left over from a job years ago. It all screwed right in like it was made for it. Then I measured out 700mL of lube into an old Mobile 1 oil bottle with a graduated scale on the side. It came out just perfect, just slightly below the fill plug. Best part, no mess.

Now I'm changing the coolant. I looked up the amount I needed, and in my best Beaver voice I said "THREE WHOLE GALLONS??". Thats more than I was expecting! I'm used to all my newer cars taking around 2 gallons or so.

Boy am I having fun with this car! Fiddling with it is just what the doctor ordered.

LOL!

My differential oil leaks out fast enough that I never have to worry about "changing it". I just keep it topped up with every oil change and that is the same as changing the oil every few months!

I didn't get much oil out of the diff when I drained it, so I may be topping up more than I'm changing from now on. I suppose that's part of the charm!
