So I've been driving past this ol boys house at least once a week while at work for the past 4 years and staring at his 36 v8 pickup. Hasn't moved from the weeds since I first saw it. So stopped in one day to ask him about it and of course if it was for sale! Got the generic everything is for the right price. I didn't have cash on me at the time so didn't wanna be that guy, ya know make an offer and show up Monday when the bank opens. Bout the truck a bit, its a 36 flathead v8 1\2 ton(I forgot to count studs) but not locked up, said he put a new motor in it back in 59 when he got it, said it was parked there 6 years ago, surface rust but no rot, body is pretty damn straight and has title!! Needs glass and interior and probably a fuel tank (missing gas cap so just figuring) and the usual to get running. So kind of ball park what does everyone think this old girl is worth???

Got any pictures? Even a person that is not selling. Can be motivated by a guy with cash and a trailer in front of their house. I don't like to stop without money. Make him give you a price. And if he won't start at what you think is the lowest.

i didnt take any pictures when i was there, i was a little to excited getting to see it up close! he seemed a little more interested in seeing a young guy like me interested in his 36 to be honest, **** went to look at one truck and ended being there for an hour and a half. he seems to be interested in cleaning up the lot a little but has said people have stopped and asked but didnt offer anything good. the plan will be take a pocket of cash and start at a grand, if he tells me to go f myself ill know he knows what its worth. who knows that may do it hes somewhere in his 70s and lookin rough

I know a few guys that are known for not selling. They have told me that they will sell. But no one ever brings cash. Am they all ways say I will be back with money. And never show back up. I think if you do go back with cash. He will be willing to work with you. But if you don't show up. And go back a year from now. He might not be willing to work with you.

Sounds like he wants to choose who he sells to. How about take him a few photos of a restored truck and tell him that's what you want to do with this one. Then make him a reasonable offer, like $4,500- $5,000. If you try to low ball him you'll tick him off and you'll be done. Good luck.
PS, I live in Loveland so if you need help getting it home, send a PM.

Ya we will do some *** kissing! Also helps I told my dad about the guys 64 impala out there and he wants to check that out as well. Just tryin to sell my old aa first cuz that thing will be coming home with me. I'm a 24 year old government employee so money gets tight sometimes and gotta cut loose one lol anyone else have aaa? 3 free towing up to 100 miles every year!

Yes photos and what road??? Any thing else out there?

Any old vehicle that has been parked that long out in the open has very limited value, to say the least. I have owned lots of old cars, and have two main requirements before talking money: It must be running, and have a valid up to date title. Otherwise, it is just a donor car or lawn ornament. A '36 parts truck is worth about $750 if that's what you need.

Condition ,Condition , Condition , . hows the frame in front of the rear wheels ,where ther X comes in ? AND ...hows the main body of the truck /cab thats the money everything else can be replaced/swapped . I know what you mean ,you don,t want to lowball him right off the bat an piss him off but really those two things I mentioned are "IT" In My Humble Opinion ;).....Up here in New England a cab like that is worth a grand all day and the frame is too ! thats 2 grand to start ! good luck and ,,ah,,, oh,,, some photos would be nice/manditory,,, for any future posts to this family website !:D::DD

He's got a 34 model b, his brother did all the chasis and body then died. Body is in pieces but looks all there. Flathead 4 banger

It's a funny thing. People will say " take cash " I drove from Wisconsin to Norman Oklahoma To look at a 1938 Buick convert. that was advertised for sale, and another time to mid Iowa to look at a 1939 plymouth convert. That was also for sale. Each time I took $15,000, in cash, this was over 20 years ago. In neither case did I buy a car. We negotiated, and I said " I have cash" . But I did not buy either the car. If I had it to do over again, I would do it different, I would pull the money out, and actually SHOW the guy the cash!!!

Wisbangman the guy you talked about had them advertised for sale. So he probably knew what he wanted. And you probably knew pretty close to what he wanted. Some time stopping at a place out of the blue. Cash talks. I stopped at a place once where a 30 AA was sitting in a bunch of brush. I asked the guy if it was for sale. He asked what I had to offer. I had three hundred bucks in my truck. I offered him that and he took it. He said that's more that I could get for it at the scrap yard. Having cab on hand from the get go on a cold call. Makes a big difference. The prices on these will be different from where people are located. If you live in the north east. Where everything turns to rust. You will pay more. If you live in areas where everything has been cleaned up. They will bring more. There are still places where you can get lucky and get a good deal on a car or truck.

bart78....I guess my point was that had I actually got the cash out, and showed the guy the money, it may have put him in a mood where, his thought pattern might have been, " Hey ! this guy has really got the money here ! HE IS FOR REAL ! " It's off the thread a little, but the guy with the Norman Oklahoma Buick, when I asked him about keeping the car at his house for a week or two til I could come get it said, why don't you just take it now and drive it home ? 1000 miles of Interstate in February in a 60 year old car that I knew little about ? Sure. The 39 Plymouth owner, after me driving 300 plus miles, said, "The power top works fine, but it is too much of a pain to put it down. " ????? None the less I was very interested in the cars, and maybe a different result would have taken place if - I WOULD HAVE SHOWED THEM THE MONEY "

In general I respect your opinion, but I think you are miles off base here.

Cab...if useable-500
doors- if useable-200 each and up
RB's if workable-200-300 each
the list goes on.

Rear fenders are like Hens teeth...set your price...see them sell for 400/500 each and need a lot of work.

Haven't got to the rest of the truck, bed, tail gate, hood, grill-decent grill...easy 350/400...the list goes on.

To the OP...don't make an insulting offer, good way to rile a seller up in a lotta of cases.

I understand wisbangman. I don't ever look at a cars value on what I can part it out for. The way I look at it. Is how much would I have to put into it. Im not into cars to make money. But I'm not out loose my butt either. I allways tell people to offer what they think its worth. If the person won't give a price. Your idea of value might be different from mine. As I said cars in California will bring more than they will here. And in some places around here they can be pretty cheap. Because no one wants them.
