Ferrule Space

Group,

Many sources talk about not having the tubing extend much past the ferrule. In the Les Andrews book, I found a value of 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch called out as the distance that the tubing should extend past the ferrule.

Should a value of 1/8 inch be used for all fuel line/ferrule dimensions ?

Hi Marc, according to Paul Moller in his book on Model A carburetors, page 29, it should be no more than 1/8" beyond. Excess can block flow. He goes on to say that the easiest way to do this is to get a 1/2-20 bolt about 1 inch long and screw it into the hole where the filter screen in the carb goes . Put the nut and ferrule on the fuel line and insert it until it touches the bolt and tighten the nut. It is fool proof. Hope this helps.
