Ferro or Terro door mechanism

I am restoring a 1928 Briggs Fordor 60A. The driver door mechinsm is well worn so I have dissassembled it and have welded up the worn parts. I ordered a door latch rivet (part # 32066) from Brattons but it is not even close to the original. Has anyone had any experience rebuilding these Terro door mechanisms and if so, did you replace the original rivet that holds the door latch arm to the mechansim? Where did you get the correct rivet? Thank you.

If it's just a rivet or two that you need, could you make it on a lathe? I had to make the special aluminum rivet for the squeeze handle on my 1928 E-brake.

Fortunately the Ferro door latch mechanism on my delivery is screwed together. No one is likely to take the interior out to make sure it looks correct. If all else fails go to a farm and ranch store and buy some the right length and style. Rod

I recently finished rebuilding all the door latches of my S/W sedan, and I ended up making several rivets on my mini-lathe. If you have access to a lathe, it's an easy job: I started with a 5/16" bolt I had lying around and fifteen minutes later, I had the rivet I needed. Lots of thanks to Kevin for describing his experiences fixing these type of latches: http://home.comcast.net/~68c/latchrepair.html

My next step is to use my lathe to make a replacement for one of those knob-things that are on the end of the arms of window regulators. If anybody is contemplating buying a mini-lathe, here is a handy web site: http://www.mini-lathe.com

If you are interested in a mini-lathe, watch out for a Harbor Freight sale and/or those 20% off coupons.
