Fenders

I am a proud owner of a 1928 Tudor. I've decided to add a trunk moving the spare to the drivers side front fender. The fender on the car is original (no welds or bondo) in great condition. I don't want to cut this one up. I have another fender, I cut out the hole for the wheel well and started modifying it to fit. The arch doesn't come close to fitting up against the underside. When I discovered this to be an issue, I then held it up under the fender on the car, it fit's almost perfectly. The fender I've cut out is suppose to be from a 28 or 29. My question is, is there any difference in Tudor or coup fenders. I realize the 30 / 31 fenders are different. I also ran across a thread here on the Ford Barn, early 28 fenders were somewhat different, but it's just the flange not the curve of the fender. If anyone can shed some light on my fender issue, I would appreciate your input.

28-29 fenders interchange no problem. and the models of car's fenders interchange

the difference between early 28 and later is the back slope of the early 28 fenders is rounded. if the car was judged that difference would get noticed but 90% of others will not. my truck has a early 28 on one side and a later one on the other.

the fender wells for 28-29 are the same and install the same.

i have done both lefts and rights. i found that the flange that folds from the fender into the well is a little tough to persuade. (i cheat now and make that flange not quite so wide. with the tire in no one knows).
if you are, or know an old bodyman it would be beneficial with the hammer and dolly work. aswell body filler is going to be your best friend.

ps. i like that you are NOT putting the luggage rack behind the spare tire. to me that just looks stupid.

i did the same thing here.
hard to see but i built the trunk and brackets so the trunk fit nice against the rear body panel.

another way to do this is if you can find a left pickup fender. all model a pickups had a well in the left fender. hotrodders don't like that. if you could find one that may save you some work.
if not
i suggest that you do NOT try to do the well with the fender off of the car. bolt that fender onto the car. get it good and solid. it will be a lot easier to do your metal working.

I prefer the spare on the back - it's easier to get in the car.
I put mine under the spare. Only need to see it when it's in use - hauling the cooler and chairs to the picnic.

agreed with accessibility. the drivers door will not open as far with the sidemount. i cheated my spare tire out with spacers on the mounting arm which moved the tire a bit further away, outwards and the door opened a bit more. old man with lots of thick belly fur would have a hard time getting in.
