Fender patch for headlight bar

I am trying to make fender patch es for the headlight bar using Snyders A-16006-BP. Rookie question: do the dimples go up toward top of fender or down towards inside of fender.

My fenders are so completely rusted out that I cannot tell and I get no help from Snyders.

Thx,
Jim

If you can't tell exactly where to install these, I'd make these one of the last repairs to the fender you make. Get everything else done, bolt the fenders in place on the frame and to the running board and apron, and then install and fit the fender braces. You may need to bend the braces some. Install your headlight bar with the patches below and bolt everything up. Once you are satisfied that everything lines up how you want, scribe the outline of the patches onto your fender to make the patch.

Voice of experience here - I've put a fair number of various patches in place with the holes just slightly off and had a hell of a time aligning things.

If you don't get the holes in the right place, you can loosen the fender brackets, install the bolts with nut loose, and then tighten everything up. Been there, done that.

Since the topic of alignment is being discussed, I would refrain from using the Fender Bracket to define the hole location.

Instead, there should be enough of the remaining areas to locate the centerline of the holes. Next, using a flexible steel ruler, scribe a line approximately 4"-5" above and below the centerline of the two holes. Do the same scribe 90° (-perpendicular) on the holes extending 3"-4" past the holes. When you cut to remove the damaged metal, the scribes will be on the fender still which will allow you to locate exactly the ℄.

Make sure when you cut the damaged metal that you cut smaller than the patch panel. This allows you to scribe to opening size and then cut, trim & file to have an exacting fit that can be fuse-welded and planished.
