Fender mounted spare on a 30 Coupe

Gents,

I have been looking at a local 30 coupe for sale.

The car was restored as a deluxe a couple of decades ago and a fender mounted spare installed at the time. Is it correct to have the spare on the drivers side for a deluxe coupe? I have seen them both ways over the years.
What is original for a 30 deluxe?

Thanks,

Joel

A fender mounted spare does not make it a Dlx Coupe. What does is the interior and cowl lights. If the car was to have one fender mounted spare it was usually placed on the drivers side.

It does have cowl lights, roll down rear window, etc. What other interior appointments should it have to be classified as a Deluxe.

So the fender mounted spare was an option regardless of the deluxe designation?

Thanks

Joel

Bakersfield , Is this your first Model "A' ? Rumble seat or trunk? Does it have a Dome Light? I believe standards do not and Deluxe does. The price should not matter between Standard or Deluxe anyway. Deluxe cost more because of what Scott said[ cowl lights, dome light and a deluxe int. other then that same. Good luck ...Oval or round speedometer???

The interior for the '30 Deluxe Coupe should have mahogany wood grained dash and garnish moldings, a dome light, carpet, one of several types of upholstery, and the deluxe style of window and door opening handles. The judging standards has pictures of the handles and dome light. Gar Williams

Joel;

I beleive that all cars except the convertable and commercial vehicles all came from the factory with rear mounted spares.

Roll down rear window is a 1931 feature. Your car may be a mixture of things. I've seen few original 1930 deluxe coupes.

Side mounts were std on commercial vehicles after May '28, optional on passenger cars. If you look in back, you should see the holes for the rear mount. They should have caps or plugs in them. The side mount brackets were riveted to the frame if factory installed, bolted by dealers shops.

Thanks for all the info, very helpful.

The car had a trunk and was converted to a rumble seat, has a round speedo, not sure of the dome light. I am pretty sure the car was a standard "converted" to a Deluxe. Sounds like there is still some stuff to be done to complete it.

Thanks for the help
