Female Dove Tail Help

I bought a repo female dove tail kit for my '29 Tudor and looked at the pieces and can't figure out the best (easiest) way to install them. Do I install one of the rubber pieces into the door holder then the brass piece then the other rubber piece? Or, put both rubber pieces in the door then somehow squeeze the brass piece in between the rubber pieces? I'm lost! Any suggestions or tips?

The first thing you need to do is get the rubber to the correct shape/size as Marco has shown on this site. Try Marco's website, or use the search feature here to see if you can find the threads about the problem.

Here's a link to Marco's site:

Tom, thanks for your response. I looked over Marco's site and couldn't locate any info on dove tails. I also tried to e-mail him from his site but my message was blocked on his side. I also did a search on this site with no success. What the heck? Do I need to go back to sleep and start the day over?!

Do you have the old rubber blocks? Are they good enough to reuse, or at least to use to size the new rubber parts? I don't have any pictures, but I've done the job, and the new rubber parts were always too large for me to use. I used a Dremel with a grinding stone to grind off the excess rubber. Vaseline always helps on rubber parts.

OK, that's what I'll do. It does seem like the rubber parts are way to big to fit with the brass piece. If they were used as supplied you'd have to push the door shut with quite a bit of force to compress the (large) rubber pieces. I'll shave them down a bit, put them in the door then install the brass piece. Thanks again for your help.

I shave the rubber a lot. Then put both in and then squeeze the metal in between the two. Maybe others do it differently but it works for me.

That's exactly what I did. I cut the rubber pieces quite a bit, slipped them into the holder then squeezed the brass piece in between them. It seemed to work as the door now lifts up a bit when I close it. Now it's time to align the door better!
