FE oil rails

Anyone know how necessary the oil tray is under the rocker shaft on a FE ford. Especially with today's oils? Pros or cons?

They are designed to help get the oil back down to the oil pan. Leave them out and you will probably be prone to have leaky valve covers

Might have been something to do with the oils and type of valve stem seals of the day. I always figured if they could build a engine cheaper they would have, and put them back in. http://www.network54.com/Forum/74182 Seems this place has some that do and some don't.
