Favorite LED Headlight’s?

Converting my 30 to 12 volts so time for new light bulbs. I want to go with LED’s but need some input on which ones to use. I’m interested in your experience with LED Headlight’s bulbs.

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

The prefocused Logolights work on 6v or 12v, positive or negative ground. They are the only LED's I have used so I have nothing to compare to. They definately put out some serious light tho.

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

I have never seen a properly focused LED light. They spray light all over the place, even when they are retro fitted to a modern car. The last thing I want is to have a dazzled driver heading towards me or having the lights of the car behind me dazzling me in the rear vision mirror. Unless there is a great improvement in them, I won't use them and curse those who do. They are not safe.

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

Pre-focused LED’s are the way to go ! When you install them you adjust the horizontal level , moving the lamp in or out with the original adjustment doesn’t do anything , the lamp is pre-focused . My Tudor is 6 volts and running with high beams on I have only had one complaint ( flashing their lights) but they had the foggy plastic headlights, talking about stupid headlights ! My A came with sealed beams that where scary dim at 40 mph, I then installed the proper headlights and bulbs and much improved the nighttime driving experience, now with the pre-focused LED’s 55-60 mph at night is a joy , spotting wildlife along the road along with the reflective signs that where not seen before !!!!

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

Only complaint I've seen is their weight. Bumpy roads distort the socket and they lose contact. Original socket mounting might be strengthened somehow.

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

I installed pre-focused. They seem to work really well, and I had no trouble making them pass the original headlight patterning test. No focusing required.

OTOH, I haven't driven at night yet. ;)

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

I installed the LogoLite brand prefocused ones in my cars. Definitely a huge plus for night time driving!

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

Logolight’s it is! Snyders has them but at $49 (each!) they’re pretty proud of them.

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

Yes Y I know, didn’t mean to be bad mouthing Snyder’s. I guess I should be saying that LOGO Lights is proud of them (either way, they’re expensive LoL)

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

They are pricey, but compared to original bulbs and the comments about the unfocused led's, they are definitely worth it! I have 3 sets!

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

I'm in UK, & have recently fitted the pre-focused LED's, bought in UK (LogoLights in USA?) into my 1928 A-roadster. Attached (hopefully) is a night photo of the beam, although I've not yet properly aligned them. Very impressed!. The car is 12v, with original fluted 1928-style glass. For reference, the nearer (left) hedge is about 50ft, away, the far hedge is about 75ft, & the house about 150ft. I had to change the fitting in the reflector (as the original was worn) to a BA15, parallel pin. As noted, the bulbs do not rely on the reflector, so no need to re-silver or polish.

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

Yes it is true that they're $49 from the Model A suppliers, but if you buy them from the OEM they're about $35 with shipping

OEM? Who is that?
BTW, if those light re pre focused, what is the spot like with no lens in front of it?

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

Reflective Illumination LLC out of Arizona is the company that makes them. The product is called "Rebaydo BA15S LED Headlight" and they have several distributors like Walmart and eBay. Here's a listing from eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/365229742385

I personally always try to recommend buying parts from the distributors where possible but for those budget-conscious you can go this route

Re: Favorite LED Headlight’s?

Some insight on the basic differences between incandescent and LED light sources. Incandescent lamps emit light in all directions whereas LED lamps are more directional. The Model A has a parabolic reflector that collects the non-directional light emitted by an incandescent lamp and redirects it. The light emitted by an LED lamp being very directional requires the use of a lens to redirect or focus the light.

A round circle without the lens ! At about 12 feet maybe a foot in diameter with some ambient light around the spot, really didn’t take measurements. With the lens in place it looks like an original bulb only brighter ! I personally wouldn’t drive at night without the pre-focused LED’s at highway speeds or even putting around town , you never know when a kid or an animal will run out in front of you ! Much brighter and better than original type bulbs/lamps ! I adjusted my headlights on high beam so not to blind oncoming cars so I usually don’t dim the lights and only one time had an oncoming car flash their lights at me , they had plastic lens that where foggy from age and wear .

I agree, the pre-focued LEDs are one of the best items for safety I have added to my Town Sedan, along with turn indicators. I now run with my headlights on and when leading a group of Model As I asked those that are following to turn on theirs as well. Helps me keep track of the stragglers.
