Here's what all the fuss is about.

Perhaps the fit of the fan hub to the waterpump shaft is also a factor in the failure of this fan, the coloring of both the hub, and the shaft of the waterpump shows that the tapers were different, the fan wobbled on the shaft creating xtra vibrations ----the fact that it wobbled is also evident in the hub where the nut made a hexagonal impression from the wobbling.

I will keep using my original type fan, I do inspect it, but I don't expect it to show cracks for a long time, it was NOS when I put it on, and is the later style that is less prone to hub cracks. ---I am also using an original, or very old production waterpump shaft that was machined properly and fits the fan hub perfectly---I checked the fit.
