fan clearance

I need to know howHow much clearance should there be between fan blades and radiator core, I have approx. 1/4 in. between blades and core, also when in reverse fan blades hit top radiator hose and clamp. I have 1929 sp coupe, how do I adjust radiator for proper clearances?

My 28 is all stock original parts in that area and I have about an inch at the nut. Many repro top outlets aren't right and the fan can hit some of them. You can tip the top of the radiator by the threaded support rods. Do you have the shims under the radiator to frame mounts? They are about 3/16" thick on mine.

Do you have the correct radiator for your rig? Also sometime if your radiator is a "heaver" type of radiator(more cores) it may sit closer to you fan. With my heavy duty radiator, my fan blade nut is about 1/4 inch from the core of the radiator. If your blades are close to your radiator, then they may be bent.

I've got one of those repro radiators on my september 29 . It cools good but the upper hose neck is angled downward too far, we only see this with some of the reporo 28-29 radiators I'm running one of the repro aluminum fans. The easiest fix foir me was to shorten the blades. I cut 3/4 inch from each blade and rebalanced the fan. Its just an old strip down that i've had for years and i wasn't worring all that much about show points. Shortening the blades solved the fan hitting the upper hose problem and then I painted it red to make a purty out of it . If you are running float-A-motor mounts , they tend to float the running gear to some point and this would let the motor move forward and backwards to some extent depending on whether you are backing up or going forward. Heres a pic of mine. You probably can't even tell that the fan is shortened.
