fan belt

does anyone make a shorter fan belt for a Model "A" Ford, when using a alternator? the fan belts from Bratton's & Snyders are to long, due to the alt. pulley being smaller than the generator pulley.

If you are using an alternator, I might suggest that you use a notched belt due to the fact that it will bend around the pulley easier not requiring as much tension as a regular belt. Makes it easier on the water pump bushings. Obtainable at any jobber parts dealer, NAPA etc.

Basic part number I have seen used (for standard belts) are:

5L440
5L430

5L is pitch and width
second number is the length in inches.

Notched belt is good idea on Alternators.
Notched belts use a different number system
CarQuest has a Truck and Bus Series made by Gates
Numbers on label are:
TR22425
15A1080
11/16ths by 43-1/8th

Only a roadster owner knows why a dog sticks his head out the car window.

Hum,,,,,,,,is this statement in the same catagory as "why is there two doors on a chicken coupe?" Because if it had four doors it would be a "chicken sedan".

These are the numbers used at your friendly NAPA dealer. Last three numbers mean "44 inch" and "43 inch".

Running one now. Work great with no fraying, etc.The ones I bought are green.
