fan belt removal

I am replacing my head gasket and in the process of removing the fan belt discovered that the clearance between the bottom of the crankshaft pulley and the cross member (motor mount) was very, very small. I had to really work to get the belt off. Is that sort of normal or do I have to look at redoing the motor mount or something entirely different?
Thanks

Check your front engine support height. See page 294 of the service bulletins for correct mounting height.

I had the same problem. To make a long story short try jacking the engine up a few inches and the belt should come right off. The front springs seem to have settled somewhat over the last 81 years.

I have the same problem. But don't jack it up to much because you may break your rear motor mounts unless you take them loose also.
