Fairlane GT/GTA

I'm rather new to Fairlanes so this may be a dumb question. How do you tell the difference between a 1967 Fairlane GT from a GTA? I know the build number has a designation for GT but I have never seen or heard what the differece was is in a GTA. I have tracked down several GTA clones but I'm looking for the real deal. Can someone here please answer my question?

GT was 4 speed standard shift. And yes the GTA was automatic, they were 390's C IN Engines, they were quick, friend had the GT

The Gt was for men and the GTA was for women. Just kidding, I have an automatic in my old Torino, so it must be a womans car also.

You could also get a 289 in a GTA in 1967 but there weren't a lot of them. The real GTA should have the bucket seat interior with the convenience lights on the doors and factory floor shift.Although I used to have a factory 67 GTA convertible with a 390 and a column shift with no console from the factory. If it had the factory dual piston front disc brakes then it is probably a factory GT/GTA. And they had the 9" rear end.The body had GT stripes on the sides at the bottom so a clone would have the chrome trim holes filled in if they changed it to a GT.Also, a factory GT/GTA's headlight doors (rims) had a small indention and a grey painted continuance of the painted grille on it that the regular Fairlane did not have. Most people who clone them do not know this and leave this part off. I have had 7 of these cars and loved them all. Should have kept a couple of them, but thats the way it goes.

Just remember this one thing , There are no DUMB or STUPID questions EVER ! I have heard and seen people make post and tell people that and I am usually the first one to crawl up their A$$ about that too . We all had to learn some how and thanks to great groups and the internet we can find out just about anything we want to know about something now . Don't think I am getting on you but I am just this way about those 2 words .
But yes the answer was already posted with the 4 speed . Fairlanes are great cars and there was some very fast ones too . That are just one of those cars that do well with big blocks and 4 speed in them . They were great in a straight lone but that was it .
Do you have one ???

I think what tinbender wanted to know is.. does the GTA have a designation #
I'm sure he knows the GTA is a GT with an automatic

Thanks for your help, I just got back from looking at what appears to be the real deal but has been highly modified. numbers, colors and trim dont match the build code and the price was out of my ballpark for what I would consider a good restorable car but im still looking. 1967 gt or gta hardtop 390 if anyone hears of one.
