Fairlane Backing Plates?

I've had a couple of guys tell that that as long as I'm rebuilding an 8" rear axle, I need to put Fairlane station wagon backing plates. I looked up a picture of the plates and it looks like there is no provision for an emergency brake. This is a 66 Mustang rear axle housing and I need to transfer the emergency brake cables over to whatever I put together. Do the Fairlanes have the same emergency brake set in the drum as the old Mustangs or did they use something different?

The picture may be wrong unless it was a photograph taken of a backing plate , i thought they were the same. But then i'v been known to not know what i'm talking about .

Not sure why you would "need" to do that. The wagon brakes are bigger. The backing plates for 8" rears are hard to come by. Most have the same issue, holes in the area where the shoes rub on the backing plate.

If you are restoring that would be a wrong move, if you want to update put a rear disc kit on it and the fronts. Many kits out there for reasonable money.

The station wagons had parking/emergency brakes just like the sedans as far as I know. You should be able to use your cable on the wagon parts.

The wagon brakes should be 10x2 1/2 shoes and stock is 10x2. Shelby put the wagon brakes on the early Shelby's even though the Shelby's had a 9" and the wagon stuff was 8". It should be a bolt on e brake and all.
