F150 ****** with overdrive

I use the v -8 throw out, a gentlemen told me the AA and the v-8 bearing yoke assemblies are the same. and it looks like it will do the job.

the one I used is from a 46 pickup, they were used from the late 30s to 48 as far as I can remember , so a yoke and bearing from a 48 v-8 should be the same .

Hey all

I know this thread is older than dirt but I would like to ask a few questions directly related to the T-170 gear box itself

I have been parts gathering for a few years to make this happen and it’s looking as if I can complete the task this winter!

My questions are as follows:

What tools are you all using to pull the bearings from the input and the main shaft? I know I can buy the rotunda tool set from eBay but to rebuild only one transmission it seems like a huge investment for a one time thing

Second once the bearings are removed with force can I polish the shafts with emery in my lathe to loosen the clearances slightly and make these bearings a “slip fit” or am I just asking for trouble?!

Thanks in advance I really appreciate all of your input on this

Dave

You're going to need a good pair of snap ring plyers. The bearings will can off with a bearing puller. Don't polish to make installation easier. The bearings are not difficult to install. You're going to have to make a dummy shaft to re-install to countershaft. Buy the small parts kit so you can replace all the bearings and snap rings. The snap ring that holds the input shaft bearing on is not included. That bearing part number is D8UZ-7064-A and can be found on e-bay. It's a unique bearing because of its thickness and it doesn't come in the small parts kit. Good luck, If you need the repair manual to help you, I can send you a *.pdf file to help you.

I bought the snap ring per your suggestion off eBay!!

I will give the standard bearing puller a try

Thank you for the reply

Really looking forward to building this
