I am looking for some one to convert F 150 4 speed transmission to fit in a Model A. Can anyone provide such? Thank you 512 402 4923
Why would you want to put in the 4 speed transmission? the first gear is the "granny", or very low gear, and the fourth gear is straight through, as with all transmissions that are not overdrive. If it is an early transmission, is it probably a "crash box" that is not fully synchronized, making shifting difficult.
"I think the trans. they are referring to is the late model F150 3 sp. w/ a 4th gear O/D, not the lump of iron 4 sp. found in some '48-'53 heavy duty trucks."
That is correct. This is a great transmission for the model A and Gary does a very good conversion. Ed
I'm really interested in this. Does the conversion keep it closed drive?
This transmission comes from a 1981-1986 Ford F150 4X4 pick-up. Depending on the engine it was attached to, the OD ratios are .71...., .72...,or .78. fully synchroed gears....aluminum case. The shifter comes up within an inch of the original opening .....you use the original enclosed torque tube, but you will have to shorten it approximately 2". I am putting one in my '35 Coupe this month (I hope!) I will post on the process in the near future. I have heard only good things about it...Matt in Alameda
I have this same kit in my Pickup. Not as many miles on mine as John has, but agree that it is a very worthwhile mod. Check out the website, give Dave a call!I have a drop in kit by Dave Delmue in my Tudor. No frame or brake mods needed. I have 22k miles on it and it is a very worthwhile mod.
