F1 W/S wiper question

'48 to '52 used the same cab. The '48 to '50 had a single wiper. Will the double wiper assembly retrofit into the '48 to '50. There is a Mercury radio in the '48 pickup Ed's working on now? Thank you!

Some 48-50's had double wipers. All trucks should have the knockout already punched. They used a different set-up that was only sorta functional - at least here in the land of snow and ice. I have doubles on my 48 that I disconnected.

Yes, the later double will retrofit, but it isn't a bolt in application. The cabs are the same, but the under dash was modified to take the larger, braced assembly.... "some assembly is required"

Radio gets in the way with the 51-52 setup. It puts the wiper motor in the center of the dash area and the 48-50 does not have the brace under the 51-52. It would completely depend on the wiper towers for support. I tried it. There are the right side arm and tower assy on Ebay every now and then. 7C 17460 is a complete right side kit and 7C 17588 is just the arm and pivot. Dennis Carpenter has a separate NOS business and he shows 7 of the 7C 17460 kit. Ph is 704-786-8139 . Locator does not give prices.

The 51-52 electric wipers are no great shakes anyway. The design of the pivot assemblies where the arms snap on is awful. Look to the aftermarket if you intend to actually use the wipers.

I used a 1974 Pinto motor and drive and built the rest for my F1. I had to do a ground up restoration but I can tell you the W/S wipers were the hardest job of them all. But they work great.
