F-100 front axles

I tried this over on the H.A.M.B. since I thought it right on the edge of not suitable for this forum but got no real response: Will a '57 F-100 axle really lower the front of a '53-'56 F-100 by approximately 1 1/2"? I'm sure I saw this tidbit in a thread over there months ago but nobody seems to own up to it now. My '53 needs to come down about that much and I'm leery of removing more spring leaves.

you can always put the springs under the axle instead of on top, but a lot of things change when you do that, it will lower the cab by the hight of the axle. just remember change one thing and you will wind up changing two more

I had a 56 pu and the guy i bought it from just gave me the front axle says its from a 57 or 58.It was to be used for lowing his.Its out on the ground if you need and measuring.

I would really appreciate it if you could get me just one dimension : The vertical distance from the top of the kinpin boss to the spring mounting surface. Probably easiest if you stand it upside down on a a flat surface and measure up to the pad. Thanks, Dale

That would be almost 6 1/2"

Thanks George. Now all I have to do is crawl under my truck and measure IT. The next problem (assuming there IS a difference) will be finding the later axle.
