Exterior Door Handle removal

I have a 56 Victoria. The door button rod will sometimes ride up over the actuator lever if pushed in too far and gets stuck in place. I need to remove the outside handle to see what's going on. Any tips for the removal process?

You have to remove then inside handles and the upholstery to get at the screws holding the handle to the sheet metal. Removing the inside handles requires a special tool.

The tool is inexpensive. When you use it, make sure you insert it under the right side (facing the handle) and push to the left. You should also put tape, cardboard, etc. between the tool and the door panel to protect the panel from tool damage.

I think I bought the tool from a Tbird supplier, but your local parts store should have one; it's universal.

You'll need to pull the door/window handles, armrest, door lock knob, door panel and maybe even the inner window frame (I had to on my '54) to get to the screw on the small end. On my '54, the larger screw was accessable under the door weatherstripping.
