Hey I just purchased a Exhaust whistle from Brattons and im very happy with it. It works great. I was wondering if anyone had any History about the exhaust whistle?? Like who invented it and when they were invented and other information......any help would be great. Thanks Ryan

It makes the exhaust whistle..... Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

It is a whistle like on a steam engine or locomotive that attachés to the exhaust. There is one that goes between the exhaust manifold and the muffler, and another that goes on the end of the tail pipe. They use a exhaust 'cutout' to deflect the exhaust gases into the whistle causing it to make a whistling sound.

Hopefully you will forgive me now....

Yes they work great....but im looking for some history on them....When were they first put on cars and who invented them stuff like that..

The Aermore Exhaust Horn was a popular accessory for the Model A Ford.
The William Stevens of Chicago, Illinois received a patent in 1911 for an exhaust operated horn with tubes that played a chord.
A valve on the horn was mounted between the outlet of the exhaust manifold and the exhaust downpipe through which the exhaust gases were channeled through a series of tuned brass tubes. A cable attached between the valve and the driver compartment was used to open the valve and sound the whistle.

I have one of those whistles just like the one on the coupe but no valve.Anyone have an extra or know where i can obtain one? Thanks Ray
