Have rec'd original set of exhaust manifolds with engine(off the engine). They are sorry looking with rusted in exhaust pipe screws. I've soaked/soaked, but am wondering if it's possible to remove these screws or time to throw these manifolds? Any secrets to successful removal? BTW '49 merc 255 engine.

Heat from a torch will get them out. Take the manifold to a repair shop and have the mechanic take them out for you. Maybe give him a $5.00 bill for coffee.

Put the manifolds in a vice. With a torch, heat the manifold all around where the stud screws in, Cherry red, with vice grips on the stud they usually will screw out. Walt

I like to TIG weld a nut on to the stud that gets just the stud red hot and most of the time they come out with little fuss 90% of the time the other 10% get out the drill and tap. Good luck

Believe it or not,my 55 Chevy hauling truck had twisted off bolts in one manifold. The muffler shop man used a cutting torch and blew the bolts out, retapped the holes and it worked perfectly.Apparently a torch will not cut cast iron.
