Exhaust/intake manifold machining

I to purchase new intake & exhaust manifolds, but there is another way. I used to mill the face of the exhaust manifold where the intake mates to it, that is where they are not straight.

It makes me wonder if the original intake has been cut at one time. .02-.025 is pretty wide of the mark in machining.

Probably messed with by some dork with a tablesaw and sandpaper.

LOL.

You can mill them, but it is a hard set up on a mill. It takes time to set it up. Time is money and would cost more than you might want to pay.

Hansen Garage in Ramona, Ca. is set up to mill them. I've also matched the two on a belt sander, put a magnet level on them to keep it square. I saved an intake manifold machined to much to match a new exhaust by laying an 1/8" brazing on the port surfaces then bolted together and machined. This was one I made into a dual side-by-side manifold by brazing on the second runner so I had too much work in to start over.
