exhaust deflector

I was thinking of adding some kind of exhaust deflector to get the exhaust downward and spread out more so that less gets in the car and rumble seat, and less hits my congressman at the Memorial Day parade (I actually LIKE my congressman, at least the state congressman).

Saw one of these on a car at a show last weekend:
yb.dll

and found out that Mac's has them.

Anyone used one? How does it work?

Anyone just add an extension with a downturn on it? Does it get hit by the rear axle or is there enough clearance?

Can I run a pipe and exit out the rear beyond the body and use an exhaust hanger on the bumper bracket?

I have one on my coupe but I do not have a rumble seat. I think it's more for decoration. It clears the axle because the pipe is below. In your case this may work for you with a tail pipe extension. Any muffler shop can make an extension pipe up at minimal cost.

Steve, I have one on my Pickup and it is great. It keeps the exhaust from blowing on the rear axle housing by defecting it down. On mine (Ihave the SS Aries) and it will just barely fit just in front of the axle housing.

Thanks for sharing this Steve. i never knew they made them and I'll have to pick one up. My Daughters don't like the fumes in the rumble.

I don't happen to have my car at work :-)

Can someone give me the outside diameter of a "standard" Model A exhaust pipe? I'd like to stop off at the auto parts store on the way home and pick something up to make an extension to use in the parade.

Steve

I have had several A's with the pipe extended to come out just ahead of the rear wheel pointed at an angle to the rear and cut off flush with the running board "baloney" style. The air turbulence from the wheel deflects the exhaust away so it never gets in the car.
