Exhaust cut outs

Any suggestions for what works the best for exhaust cutouts? I have fenton headers with dual exhaust, steel pack mufflers. Don't have a bunch of room on the drivers side as the pipe goes through the battery box. Would like to have them for the cool sound, have seen them from Jegs that are electric, some with wing nuts and some with a cable. Thanks for the input!:D

Tom, here is my lotech approach. These are gas filler caps and short filler pipes from Speedway. Less than 20 bucks each. I added them to the exhaust pipes ahead of the mufflers. These are on a 32 frame.
Hope it helps
Jim

A while back JC Whitney had cable operated cutouts for around $20 each. I do not remember exact price, but i think they still have them. Marv

I did the gascap cutouts years ago, but the gaskets on the gascaps burn out
and then rattle and sound like crap.
If you could make a metal gasket to fit in the gascap, then they would work pretty good.;)

Yes, Lanny is correct. I have made some new gaskets from an Asbestos type material. Hopefully, they'll last

Just a thought, ever think of using Model a radiator caps or gas caps? You could buy pipe that is threaded the same and screw them on. They would have a very nice tight fit. I am thinking about going this route on my coupe. They would also look period perfect.

If you are making power the gas caps will blow off, like a bomb. I used a wye kit with the flat plate and thumb screws, made a couple of nice ends I can take and put on when I feel the rebel brewing. If you want to use something screw on you could weld on a 2 or 2 1/2" pipe coupling and weld some winglets on a pipe plug. The cheap wire kits rust up. The nice electric kits are really pricey for my style.

Grandadeo, Thanks for the links, that one from Jeggs looks pretty good, can't wait to hear the true sound of my Flathead again! Got my new tires from Coker coming this week too. The car will look cool for now until it has to go away for Michigan weather!

We used to use a piece of threaded water pipe w/screw on pipe caps. cheap, & worked good w/no leaks.

I used that Jegs one that you have the link for, good value, then just buy a spare flange to fit that blockout and a turn down 90, I put a set of stainless bolts and thumb screws on them, I can be rebel in 30 seconds flat for under 60 bucks.
