It always amazes me how when a Question is asked how we get many answers on how it should be / some times the answers are SO - SO
far apart.
With out going into details there was a thread a short time ago where two what I consider some of the best Flathead / Ford :D GURUS :) gave two exact opposite answers to a Question.

So I Guess these old cars are like SEX ( got your attention now don't I )
Just keep it safe & you can have a lot of fun !!!!

It's sorta like the the meaning of 'off' and 'on'.
If someone is 'off' their medication (which they should be taking) or if
someone is 'on' medication (which they should not be taking) The result is the same,
it comes out as 'GIBBERISH'

The best advice I got early on about my car is "You will get lots of advice, most of it wrong". MY approach for sanity and consistency is to decide who I feel are the experts are. Since I have a 32, I listen to Dave for what is correct, of course, and then Dick Spadaro for what works (Dick has definitely kept me from doing many stupid things).

Jim1932:

My point being even when you ask the people in the know they is so much that is left up to interpretation & We new "B's" must relies that.
I for one am so grateful that they willingly give up there wealth of knowledge.

I keep asking Questions & keeping notes of all the answers.

My hope is others are learning from the Questions & answers along with me.

My personal observation on this issue is that the vast majority want to he helpful to the one asking the question. That's the great thing about this site. But there are times when someone misunderstands the puzzle, thus the misleading response. This is an awesome site, with contributions from many very kind and knowledgeable folks.

I agree with Jim1932 and TStiles. I personally don’t post hearsay fixes, only post ones that I’ve been their, done that.

Everything in life should be treated as a learning experience, including playing with Flatheads. Trial and error is how most of us learn about most things and, as with everything, there are always some people who think they "know it all", to the point that they will become argumentative on forums such as this one. I don't purport to give advise, but I would suggest to anyone asking a question pertaining to our hobby, that they discount a large number of responses and consider the source before they act on what they think is, or might be the answer/solution to the original question.

It is human nature I guess. Different people interpret data differently. If you think it is an issue here take a look at Wall Street. Two people with the exact same data can extrapolate polar opposite opinions on investments. I have often seen stock upgrades and downgrades on the same day by different analysts. Who was it that said, "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance."

No matter how good your answer to a question is , someone will shoot it down , give their anecdote and add some convincing line like " And you can take that to the Bank " or add a "PERIOD" to it , so now I keep my opinions to myself and enjoy the entertainment.......

WOW...two pretty profound statements from two different guys that seem to "get it". I personally think that all of what they BOTH say can be "taken to the bank"...and especially that "PERIOD" part. DD

Vic...You should be nominated as the "official" FordBarn comedian. DD

Coopman, I’m glad you are (and continue to be), so easily amused. :) However, I wouldn't want to take any notoriety away from you! :p Perhaps you should change your moniker to “Class Clown”. On second thought, I doubt that you’d do that justice either… I'm sure it would be just another failed attempt at humor on your part…:( If at first you don’t succeed… I’m looking forward to your retort with a modicum of anticipation and/or amusement so, please try not to disappoint me…;)

I know I am guilty of bad info that was corrected by someone else. We often post of our own knowledge or experiences and miss nuances that render our answer invalid. I have a 32 4 cylinder and forget to that what applies to a 4 cylinder may not apply to a 32 V8.

What gets me is after a thread is fully developed, problem solved and thanks given, then here comes the late posters who never bothered to read anything but the original question, but they know how to fix the problem.

Why so many complaints? Sort out the good from the bad and you will learn. The advise or descriptions here are free. I offer info but usually add a caveat if not sure. Are some here just wanting to suppress discussion, I hope not.
