Ethanol out the door

Strangely enough, I have NEVER had an ethanol related problem with my Model A's, lawn equipment, '93 Buick, or my Dodge Kadota truck. I "think" I probably get less gas mileage, but I NEVER check my mileage anyhow! I "try" to NOT look at the prices either! I only go to "BAD BUD'S" for gas 'cause they got cute girls workin' there!:D

from SEMA,

Florida Bill to Eliminate Ethanol Requirement Signed Into Law
Heeding the call of angry consumers increasingly wary of the corrosive effects of ethanol blended gasoline, Florida Governor Rick Scott signed into law legislation to repeal the requirement that all gasoline offered for sale in the state contain a percentage of ethanol. Under previous law, the Florida Renewable Fuels Standard required that all gasoline sold or offered for sale by a terminal supplier, importer, blender or wholesaler in Florida contain 9-10 percent ethanol, or other alternative fuel, by volume.
Ethanol increases water formation which can then corrode metals, plastics and rubber, especially over a period of time when the vehicle is not used. Current high performance specialty parts along with pre-model year 2001 cars and parts may be most susceptible to corrosion. The life span of vehicles and equipment can be dramatically reduced with the wrong fuel and owners are often confronted with break downs. While the ethanol mandate did not apply to fuel used in collector vehicles, off-road vehicles, motorcycles or small engines, there has been an inability to obtain unblended gasoline for engines that may be damaged by ethanol.

Thank you and congratulations to all who participated in supporting this bill!

Hey Guy's

I could see the Governor here in Calif getting rid of the Ethanol,,"Ain't" going to happen...I ran my engine till it ran out of fuel,,I guess the new so called leakless shut of valve dripped...When I went to restart it a few week's latter the carb was all plugged up

BTW what ever the gas price is in your area...add 50 cent's to that for Calif Gas Not happy in the former "Golden State"

As of 6/1/13 Florida just outlawed MANDATORY use of ethanol gas. Stations now have a choice to sell corn gas or not. This is despite Fed regs to the contrary. The report also said gas could come down as much as a dollar a gallon....yeah sure I'll hold my breath:D

mccsix ......................
Florida has always had non-ethanol gasoline.
Here is a list of all stations that sell it, by state. There are 405 in Florida, alone.

I'm aware of those very rare overpriced pure gas stations. This should over time make them more available and cheaper especially if other states follow suit and the bulk stations make it more pleniful

I saw a station with one pump that says ethanol free gas here in GA. I'm going to see if they actually have any next time I need gas for my Model A, and get 5 gal. for my small engines. I had heard that marinas were exempt but haven't checked them out. Maybe that is how they get it delivered as they sell 2 cycle stuff at that location. I also was told that the ethanol gas had a shelf life and it was mixed in when shipped which would mean that a tanker could have one section ethanol free when making a delivery.
A friend with an airplane told me that ethanol gas has 80% of the power of straight gas so they can't use it in small planes because they can't get the power they need. That and the other problems with it.

There are a few stations in Ga that has non ethanol but it is around $1.00 a gal more.It is for sure better in small engines and runs our old cars with better mileage and power.

Slightly off the subject, we are on a road trip, 8600 mi's so far with a week to go. Ethanol free Premium is not available but I have noticed the mid-west and south have a few stations with pure gas. Prices higher on the coasts and the north, cheaper in the south, it seems that if you buy your gas near a refinery in most cases it costs more than 200 mi's away.

For those of you that will be traveling the next month or so, Wal-Mart gas stations give $0.10 off with their gift card, $0.15 off if you use their credit card. There may be a time limit to this offer and of course the store has to sell gas.

I wrote to my state senator yesterday and asked why we couldn't do what Florida did in our state. It's got to start somewhere.
