Etching Primer Paints

If you are talking about a frame or something like that, no. But I've used etching primer on body panels only to deter rust. It is not a good build up type of primer for block sanding. On body panels I have shot etching primer, regular build up primer, block sanded and re-prime as necessary. Before shooting color, I spray sealer over all of the work to get a good homogeneous undercoat to prevent bleed through.

Almost all paint being sold now is system type paint. You would buy all stages from the same manufacturer and use a group or system that has all compatible products. Etch and prime, seal, finish prime, color coat and clear coat. If you step outside of the box of that scenario you would be best advised to research with the manufacturer of the primer and the manufacturer of the finish type paint you intend to do. Again, I recommend contact with the manufacturer, any thing short of that can result in chemical clash.

Etch prime is posable best wet on wet .for chassis parts top coat it with your Finnish coat within about 6hrs ,Epoxy is a popular 1st coat these days and doesn't rely need a etch on first ,Cars sitting around in primer can suck in moister , Epoxy minimises that .as the others say it etch , doesn't have to be primed ,
