breasts down here = "Orbs", "jugs", "bristols", "norks", "Headlights" ( and if they are really big, " Lucas P one hundreds" like the big lights that were on vintage Rolls', Bentleys and Lagondas ).

LOTUS....Loads OF Trouble, Usually Serious

FIAT.......Fix IT AGAIN TONI and F-------G ITALIAN AFTERTHOUGHT


Any ideas on the following?

Ford = "Found on rubbish dump"

BSA = "Best sh*t available"

BMW= "Bat mans willy" ( so my daughters used to joke when they were small).

NSU ?= (Be careful with that one also)

Actually as I understand that gesture that got popular during the 1960's in the US as a "Peace" sign used by the "Hippies", originated after WWII and was meant and used as the sign of "Victory" after the US and Allied (including the UK) took the victory in WWII.

Ford's in England used Lucas electrics at least since 1932 till sometime into the '80's almost exclusively. Late on Bosch was used alongside, don't know after then. The everyday cars here, my Mk1 Cortina and her Morris minor ( at the moment, the Morris is just about to be replaced with a 1959 Ford prefect) all on Lucas stuff and reliable.
As for the stuff built by British Leyland in the late 60's and 70's Mgb and such, I will not defend. I have worked on lots of them, and they are bad, not just the electrics the whole thing will fall apart if you look at it the wrong way!
No I don't have shares or stocks in Lucas, but I will defend an unfair reputation.
Think of it this way. American carburetors are all rubbish and unreliable, all leak and blow power valves. That's not a fair statement Is it?

I recently was in the usa, and had to book a flight from denver to lincoln on the phone while i was still in australia, it was too close to book online. It took nearly 30 minutes on the phone, with her latin accent and my aussie accent we had to spell everything, and sometimes it was hard to even understand the spelling!!! It was very frustrating at the time, i can laugh about it now ha ha. Ha ... No , its still frustrating!!

FORD means 'Fantastic on Rough Dirt', but I still dunno what a 'flexion unit' is, can only guess it's a universal joint?

GB, manual gearbox. US, standard shift or stick shift.
GB, hand brake. (legally required on all cars. US, Emergency brake. (apparently an option, due to the amount of cars/pickups that I see shipped over and missing these some or all components)
GB, MOT. Yearly test of the road worthiness of the car, recently this has been changed. Vehicles first used before 1960 no longer have this test as mandatory. It is an option. Wether this was a good move, I don't know. As there are lots of folk over here that think they don't need to comply with what makes a car road worthy, because it don't have to pass the test.
Seems to be a problem with understanding that it's the test that's not mandatory. Wether the car had a test or not, it still has to remain in a road worthy condition. If it doesn't, it is still against the law to drive it on the public highway.
US, don't know what tests or regs you guys have to meet?
Do your cars have to be insured to drive on the road? Ours do.
I think all told there are lots of little differences between our countries. Wether they be based on fact/hear say or whatever. It's the similarity that keeps us all friends. Early Ford passion is a big part of that.
