Is there a way to tell the year of a Model A engine just by looking at the outside? Not by serial number?

Yes there is...go to my website and view the 40 Horse Block data.

Then go to the Engine Block Graph.

There are about 10 or so outside features, that if known, you can come up with a close estimate of the window of production.

This is specific for the BLOCK only...not the entire assembled engine as earlier features could and were added to later blocks themselves (and visa versa) which would and could throw of the date or the year!
